Radiohead - Creep

This song embodies the essence of my theory. The artist sings about feelings of inadequacy among his peers and instead of pushing through his insecurities, he gives up.
"But I'm a creep
I'm a weirdo
What the hell I'm doing here?
I don't belong here.."

The book Before I fall by Lauren Oliver has a character in it who commits suicide because she feels like there is nobody in the world who understands and is there for her. She comes to the conclusion that her only option is to kill herself because she can't live up to the expectations of the world without failing.

In the book The Jungle by Upton Sinclair the family comes to America to gain all of the riches they were promised they could find in this great country. But there came a point where they failed so much that they quit trying to be successful and sunk doing degrading things like becoming whores to get by. All because of their fear to experience any more devasting failures. They just gave up hope.
